Aside from stalking Bluey Robinson for most of Friday and hiding from scary baby masked little people at Cirque Le Soir, the remainder of the day we were lucky enough to catch Frank Ocean, John Legend and Friday’s headliner- Justin Timberlake. Unfortunately, all 5’4 of me could barely see over most of the crowd and had to place trust in the zoom of the camera to see the artists up close (I am basically the David Attenborough of pop stars at this point)
My only gripe with the new site for Wireless this year is the distance- getting from the main stage to the other stages was a good 15-20 minute walk away, dodging through thousands of people. There weren’t alot of areas to get out of the sun- i’m not sure if the people I saw being half carried away by their friends had heatstroke or too many vodka red bulls…
Anyway, old lady rant over.
We trekked back to the Pepsi Max stage to catch Frank Ocean, but American security are a whole other species and this is the closest I could get to Frank.
I’ve never really listened to any of Frank Ocean’s music before, but his fans are DEDICATED. His performance was understated but full of emotion…I almost felt like he needed a hug and a bit of reassurance. Or maybe like us, he had just had to massively trek across from the main stage.
Justin, he’ll make do for a 2nd or 3rd husband. Then we schlepped it back to the main stage to catch the day’s headliner- Justin Timberlake. And this is where I’m really sorry- this is all I captured. I was too busy reliving my teenbopper days and got completely caught up. I have never been to any festival before that entailed the crowd to start spontaneously electric sliding. I have been humming his new single Take Back the Night in my head ALL DAY.
The next day, my poor bruised feet slipped into a fresh pair of sandals (RIP yesterday’s Topshop sales bargain) to catch Emeli Sande and Jay Z.
Emeli was amazing. I also must find out what make and colour that red lippy is. She is as brilliant live as you would expect- no wonder we keep rolling her out for every national celebration. I’m sure she’ll be there to croon to Will and Kate’s firstborn post vajajay.
And then- Jay Z.
I stood my distance a little when Hov came on, the crowd was ROWDY and I am an old lady (but still kept my diamonds up, obvs) Jay Z is ‘the new Sinatra’- but I wouldn’t expect any holiday songs coming out any time soon.
He played ‘nothing but the hits’ as well as songs from his new Magna Carta Holy Grail album. I didn’t stay around to the end to find out who special guested his gig (Justin Timberlake) but I left happy and also…glad to be out of the crowd. ROWDY I tell you!
This morning I learnt presale tickets are being released on Thursday for his concert at the O2.
I have a feeling I’ll be throwing my diamonds up again this October.
