Mother’s Day isn’t a particularly big deal in my family, mostly a card or a Facetime on the day is how it works for us. But this year worked a little bit differently- with Robin abroad for a few days, my mum offered to come babysit me and the bump for the week. Coincidentally, Interflora generously sent me this Spring bouquet (it’s the Scented Heavenly Beauty bouquet) and it made a simple but elegant touch the week my Mum came to stay.
Before my Mum arrived for the week, I was feeling a bit overwhelmed and frazzled with baby organising and just having her here helped a ton. We did lunch, we finished shopping for my hospital bag bits, and stocked up on a few pieces in Mothercare. Oh, and snacks- endless snacks.
So, it wasn’t so much Mother’s Day, but Mother’s Week.
We don’t live that far away from my parents- they’re only ‘up the road’ in Hertfordshire- but you know how it is. You get into a routine and you toddle along and forget that help and support isn’t very far away. It was so nice to wake up in the morning and have my Mum there, fixing breakfast, fixing tea…pretty much fixing me. My cat Pepper slept at her feet all week, completely abandoning me, his number one- but worth seeing him trying to roll his fatty belly around her foot.
I had a lump in my throat when it was time for her to go home- you know that scene in Friends, when Chandler moves in with Monica and she wails “I have to live with a booooy” That’s what it felt like. I’m a thirty something, married adult expecting my own baby in a few short weeks time…and at the end of the day, I still just want my mum! And I’m fine with that 🙂
