The August bank holiday is always a little bittersweet- it’s the last three day weekend of the year and I’ve always seen it as a farewell to Summer (even though it tends to be a scorcher of a weekend!) Even in this mini heatwave the leaves on the trees lining my street have started to morph into reddy hues and the park I walk through to get to work had crunchy leaves along the pathway. In as little as three weeks, my family’s annual visit to the Malaysia Merdeka Carnival will mean wearing a jumper and flasks of tea. Strange to think when I spent most of my Bank Holiday Monday lying in front of the fan at home! SO WHAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING LIFE LATELY, well…
Last year we bought family tickets to the Star Wars Identities exhibition at the O2 as a Christmas present to my brother in laws. So Sunday, I was up early (hah!) and on the Jubilee line towards the O2. The exhibition was so good- beyond what I expected it to be like. There were interactive wristbands that you blipped at points throughout the exhibit, so that by the end of it you would have developed your own Star Wars character. Behold, me, as a Wookie! A Jedi Knight lady Wookie to be precise. Not dissimilar to me when I get lazy with a razor.
I finally bought the Bella Freud-esque Funday jumper from New Look last week- it was the last one in my size! Meant to be, to be honest. It’s a thin knit, but this is it, here we go- I am wearing knitwear. It is time…for pumpkin spice season. And Gilmore Girls marathons, fluffy slippers, blankets on sofas, hot bowls of noodle soup and come to think of it I need to dust off my casserole dish from the cupboard.
p.s. Shoutout to my fresssssh pair of checkerboard Vans (my love affair with them shall never die)
Ehhh, so real life work news (snore) The company I work for has folded which means I AM WORKING FROM HOME AGAIN. I will be doing some adminy accounty type things. I am sad, because I do like the eccentric, little building I’ve been working from for the past 2 years. With office dogs like Roger or Barbara (amazing doggie names tbh) or Alexa Chung walking through the doors, everyday was interesting. But, hey, this is me here- when am I ever not changing up my 9-5? Speaking of 9-5 Pleasetohiremeas your BLOG PHOTOGRAPHER 😉
And if the countdown towards Autumn hasn’t been glaring enough, the Great British Bake Off started on Channel 4 last night and… *whispers* I liked it. Of course, I miss the magic trio of Mary, Mel and Sue but I was okay with Noel, Sandi and Prue. Prue is rocking some excellent accessories. I feel like Noel could slather himself in icing and become the Moon again any moment. But the bakers this year? AMAZING. I found last year’s pretty boring to be honest (except lovely Norman) but Week 1 has produced so many impressive bakes already. ROLL ON BAKE OFF!
Leaving the house this morning and breathing in the crisp air made me realise, I am so ready for September. I suppose it’s conditioned from school, when September meant a fresh new year. It feels like one chapter has closed and another is about to start- funny how things like this always seem to happen as Autumn is about to turn. Last year I said I was done with sponsored posts, because I felt like it was deflecting from the reason I started the Awkward blog in the first place. HOWEVER. I do have a collaborated fashion post coming this month, because me posing awkwardly in a cute outfit is what I do on here anyway, so I felt like it was fine and not in any danger of sounding like a robot.
Oh, and I promise myself this everytime, but taking my camera out more. Because how else are the pretty window fronts of London going to be documented? 🙂
Further exciting things to share:
My cat ate a mouse, made himself poorly and is now off to the vet later today
My postman’s name is Sanjay
I just reheated mint tea in the microwave- I don’t recommend it
I didn’t wear a jacket today and will freeze on the way home
Why are the Harry Potter books the only audiobooks I listen to? I’ve tried others but I always go back to Dumbledore.
And with that; have a good week everyone.
