The sixteenth week of my pregnancy has been in one word- sleepy. My go to book What To Expect When You’re Expecting tells me that this is down to another growth spurt…which also explains the fun-tabulous stretching pains too. This week has also made me realise that the Baby On Board badge from TFL doesn’t make a lick of difference- but granted, this was at rush hour. And like this post title suggests- renovations never stop! As I type, the last radiator is being installed in the flat and some skirting board thingamajigs are happening. After that, it’s all about making the baby room, a baby room!
Over the weekend, I went to my nieces’ dance recital. It was super cute and a little bit trippy in the best kind of way, and I got treated not only to a performance of my littlest niece waving a wand around in the air for the Harry Potter piece, but my older niece dancing in The Nutcracker which is only my most favourite ballet ever. My nephews came along too, and I don’t think I’ve told you guys, but they refer to the baby as Stuart. Even when my sister asked them, what if it’s a girl…it’s still called Stuart. As in the Minion. As in, tiny yellow being yelling BA-NA-NA.
This week I thought I’d look into NCT classes, thinking it’d be way too early to book anything. It turned out my local NCT group was filling up for the time I was due, so really I couldn’t have been more on time! I was at the hospital yesterday for more routine tests and apart from our 20 week scan next month I’m all done with tests for this year! I like the hospital I’ve chosen, but to be honest, I’d rather avoid hospitals full stop. Not for the germphobic! (me)
So NCT! After having a panicked change of heart and deciding that I wanted an epidural after all, I realised I’m going to have to pull up my big girl pants and go and meet other parents-to-be at one of these classes.
Okay, crazy cat lady moment. I am loving that my cat Pepper has become a super megatron cling-on since I’ve been pregnant. He is literally eyeballing me all day, curling up next to me when I nap or go to bed at night, perching on the tub when I have a bath, asking for more face rubs and generally making Mad Eye Moody proud with constant vigilance! We took both of them to the vet last week for their annual checkup and I told the vet about his clinginess and he said that cats sense pregnancy, because I smell different- and that’s why he’s being extra protective of his human mama and my heart broke in two right there.
When do you put up your Christmas tree? Usually, I wait to do it around my birthday but this year we might rebel and get one next weekend. I’ve seen such a huge influx of people putting their trees up already- not that I begrudge them the joy, because anything to make 2017 better. I’d like to enjoy a pretty tree for a bit longer this year because next Christmas we’ll have a little one in charge of our schedule!
One year we bought this massive tree that barely fit in the car- but it smelt SO good at home and a part of me wants to repeat this big old tree again just because we can.
Right now, we’re having the last of the radiators installed in the living room- and of course its not a straightforward job. I want nothing more than to take a nap right now, because this baby is going through a crazy growth spurt. The upside is that at least my hair feels great! Magic pregnancy hormones. But anyway, once that radiator is up, it’s another matter of getting the skirting board cut and replaced and then maybe we can consider it all done. I don’t know. Just when I think it’s done, something else has to start!
I’ll leave it here for now; I might squeeze in a sneaky cat nap right here on this kitchen bench.
