This particular week, after the events of He Who Must Not Be Named, I feel like everyone I have encountered has made an extra effort to be nicer. There’s been many kind gestures from people and strangers; a remedy for all the toxic negativity going on in the world at the moment. It’s been good for the soul to remember that it’s not all doom and gloom out there, and I just wanted to share some of the random acts of kindness and loveliness to combat the pile of rubbish that is 2016.
The Fed Ex man bought me a coffee and a croissant yesterday all because I said I was hungry after a work event that ran late the night before. He came back to the office with a cup of coffee and a brown paper bag and it was seriously the nicest thing a stranger has ever done for me. I mean?! Such a sweet and thoughtful gesture.
Waiting at the end of a train platform only for the next train to be one of those 3 carriage only ones- cue me, heavy parka jacket, carrying three heavy bags, awkwardly running to the other end of the platform to catch it. There I am, sweating, thinking shit I’m going to miss it, but instead the man ahead of me stood half in and half out of the train door to stop it from closing on me. Lots of thank you’s and smiles followed, which in London practically means a hug.
The bartender last night, who put lime and a straw in my glass of water so everyone would stop asking me why I wasn’t drinking. I didn’t even have to ask! It looked like a G&T and saved me from further awkward stories (nothing says paaarty than telling people your medical woes when they ask why you aren’t drinking)
The helpful delivery men dropping off our new kitchen appliances; who weren’t really meant to show me how to disconnect our old oven, but did anyway. They were all “We aren’t allowed to do this, but if we were to show you, this is how to do it, but we didn’t so no harm done” wink, wink, nudge, nudge. They were as sweet as pie and even took the old one away.
It’s the little acts of kindness- especially recently- that help me to remember that there are more good people in the world than bad ones and that everything will make sense again one day. Plus, little gems like this throughout the week have been a big boost as well->
Jimmy Fallon, The Roots and Metallica playing kiddie instruments is the CUTEST and James Hetfield looks so happy he could burst.
Every Paul Rudd film, ever.
Hugging a dog with a head bigger than yours.
Sleeping in a bed and eating at a table makes me feel human again, and not like a hibernating badger on the floor.
Typing Lumos into the search bar on Amazon.com
Waking up to a warm (and heavy!) bundle of cat around my feet on chilly mornings.
Getting some girly me time at the salon- a blow dry and manicure and hey presto! I’m no longer Mrs Twit.
